A quadruple celebration at Clevedon Rose Croix

Clevedon Rose Croix had four reasons to celebrate on the 10th June 2025…

  • To welcome the Inspector General, Very Illustrious Brother David Mason.
  • To perfect, to the 18th degree a member of John De-Clivedon Lodge.
  • To reflect on the turnaround of Clevedon Rose Croix over the last three years
  • To wish Neil Hurcum a very happy birthday. 25….again.

The meeting started in a very jubilant way in the dining room, where approximately 25 Brethren met to catch up and to prepare for the meeting and festivities that lay ahead.

Eventually, everyone made their way to the chapter room where the Most Wise Sovereign (the chairman), Illustrious brother Neil Hurcum opened the chapter and welcomed the Inspector General.

Having completed chapter admin, the next agenda item was to perfect a member of the John De-Clivedon Lodge, which led by Neil, was expertly done with the assistance of excellent and perfect brother Peter Harris, and Illustrious brothers Alan Trask (intermediate degrees), Martin Slocombe (1st point), and Peter Blurton (Emblems and Signs in the 3rd point).

Neil has been Most Wise Sovereign at Clevedon Rose Croix for 3 years, and has seen quite a turnaround. The chapter has emerged from a fairly bleak position, to one where it’s revitalised and looking towards a thriving, successful and above all joyful future. It was certainly the case that the perfection ceremony was second to none, and the atmosphere at the festive board (which was delicious as always) was very convivial and relaxed.

Overall, an extremely enjoyable and happy occasion, at what is now the only Rose Croix chapter meeting in the morning, in the north west of Somerset.

Neil closed the business of the chapter by conducting the 3rd point, thanked all of the members of Clevedon Rose Croix for their help over the last 3 years, and met all of the Brethren down in the dining room.

It being a warm and sunny June day, everyone was pleased to sit down to a Summer Salad with New Potatoes, followed by a Roulade with Ice Cream, and then Coffee and Mints.

Before the usual toasts were taken, there was the fourth reason to celebrate, and so two caterpillar cakes were handed to Neil, complete with a token number of candles for him to blow out. The cake was later handed out during the toasts, and was delicious.

All in all, the June 2025 Clevedon Rose Croix meeting was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the work in the chapter room and the very good company and conversation at the festive board. A shining example if ever there was one of a perfect Rose Croix meeting.
